- An adult who wants to make the most out of his or her work life
- A confused student who is not sure yet about the subject he shall choose
The reasons to take part in career guidance are related to career and personal development, like we can see in the following examples:

- Setting up a business
Whatever the particular situation of the individual is who takes part in career guidance counseling, the common target of career guide is to help bringing the individual in a position to actively gain control of its career and professional future. The use of career guidance is therefore also to help you know more about your professional self and find out what skills and talents you already possess.
How is career guidance done?
An expert career guide will use a combination of advising, mentoring, coaching, which is not limited to any special discipline and may also include fitting interview techniques, a series of analysis, assessments, and other methods.
Highly structured career guidance is also based on your requirements and thus is individualized for you. It can help you formulate your own career goals and plan the path to these goals accordingly and efficiently. This way it lets you explore career options and also show you concrete steps on how to take them.
- Are there regular review periods in which the guidance resources and processes are assessed?
- Is the career guidance process transparent and open to your profession or background?
- Does the career guidance course or counseling try to create synergies and cooperation between education, training, employment and community sectors?
- Does it strive for continuous improvement of tools, services and products to be able to give you the best advice today?
